Delta Academy Closeout
On yesterday, our #DeltaAcademy girls closed out another great year. Girls learned how to #LoveYourSelfie and the importance of having high self esteem. Each girl took and was provided with her first semi professional headshot and learned how to prepare for future careers that may require them. Special thanks to Stephanie Patton, for teaching our girls how to care for their skin and how to apply simple makeup. Also, thank you to the parents and sorors for your attendance. Voter Registration
This morning WMAAC members, along with Project 13 Organization, Crittenden County NAACP, went to Academies of West Memphis to conduct Voter Registration. There were a vast number of students, 18 years of age, that were eligble to register to vote. Chapter members were able to assist the students in completing the application and returned them to the Crittenden County Clerk's Office. Financial Planning Seminar
Thank you to all who came out for the Financial Planning Workshop. Participants learned how to achieve financial goals and the importance of understanding your credit report. There was a strong emphasis placed on obtaining life insurance policies and how to choose the right coverages. Everyone was left with some practical money saving tips, to help with everyday life. We can’t thank our presenters enough for all of their expert information. #EconomicDevelopment

#FitFamilies This evening Delta Academy participants discussed portion sizes, eating a variety of fruits and vegetables, choosing lean meats and dairy, and the importance of whole grains. The girls, parents, and sorors did strength training and body weight exercises. Our instructor for the evening was Meredith B. Wayman, Family and Consumer Science Agent Of Crittenden County. At the closing of the meeting girls received Christmas gifts, books donated by West Memphis Public Library, and healthy snacks.
STEMulating Tuesday
Approximately 100 students, parents, educators, volunteers, and sorors gathered for STEMulating Tuesday at Maddux Elementary.Students were divided by age groups and given the opportunity to explore various aspects of STEM. Older students learned how to create slideshows in google docs. They also learned about virtual frog dissection. Younger students built houses out of gum drops and toothpicks and built balloon towers. Special thanks goes out to Chatts Cuts, for donating free haircuts for tonight’s door prizes and to our partner Maddux Elementary. Stay tuned for more STEMulating Tuesdays.
Delta Academy visit to Crittenden County Quorum Court Meeting.
WMAAC Delta Academy participants attended the Crittenden County Quorum Court Meeting. Girls learned about the different issues going on throughout the county and their cities. The girls were very engaged and asked very interesting questions. Crittenden County Judge Woody Wheeless explained county operations and administrative procedures. County Judge Wheeless introduced the girls, and thanked them for coming! #SocialAction #WMAAC #Mentorship

In our chapter meeting today, we addressed Domestic Violence. A single painted purple nail symbolizes the struggle of domestic violence and a vow to end it. 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence during her lifetime.

ACT PREP WORKSHOP
This morning, over 125 parents, volunteers and students (grades 7th-12th) came out for the WMAAC ACT Prep Workshop. Presenters focused on the great areas of the test. Students who have already taken the ACT, shared tips for fellow students. Students came from Earle, Forrest City, Jonesboro, Wynne, West Memphis, Marion and Millington. Presenters, who are educators from various school districts, gave the participants handouts and study materials to take home. Next ACT test date is October 28th. We encourage students to start now taking the test. #WMAAC #DST104
Kindergarten Readiness
Over 100 students, parents and volunteers came out for the 2017 Kindergarten Readiness Fair. Students gained insight on Phonological/Phonemics Awareness, Phonics, Math and Reading. The students received kindergarten preparatory materials, school supplies and food. Students were also given shots and physicals, as well as dental information and library cards. Delta Academy Closeout
WMAAC celebrated the success of our Delta Academy! The participants and parents expressed their appreciation for everything they experienced this year. They were also able to interact with WMPD Officer Jordan and speak with local authors. Each girl received a copy of their book. We look forward to having them back next year.
